As we all know children safety has
gone downhill. I have thought about what I wanted to write my service project
on and I have decided to write about children safety. I care so much about kids
that hearing that many aren’t even safe kills me. I most got excited to share my thoughts about
this topic once the whole Hailey Owens thing happened this past week. I know
that I am very upset about the subject and I’m not even a mother yet. Knowing that
kids aren’t safe in their own neighborhood and that kids can’t even go outside
and play on a nice day in this community anymore scares me to death. After this has happened I have decided to talk
about children safety and talk with young kids on what they need to do when I situation
like this happens. I know that my first
step in completing and talking to young kids starts with me and my kids at Day
Care. I know that I love all these kids and they mean so much to me that I will
teach them first because I’m with them the most and it is very important to me
that they know what safety tips to use during a situation such as one that has occurred
earlier this week. Over all I hope to
teach children about safety tips needed in this community now days.
I agree- kids should be able to spend time outside on a beautiful day! This is an important issue that needs to continue to be taught.
ReplyDeleteHannah,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I got to talk to you in class on Friday—you have such an easy-going disposition.
I too want kids one day, but even more than that I simply love being around them. So to think about how someone can do such a cruel act is scary. When I was in elementary school, I was often allowed to walk home from school, which was a little more than half a mile away. Sometimes my parents wouldn’t get home until a couple hours after I arrived home, though my mom would always call. I don’t think it’s safe to do that now in this area.
I am curious how you plan to teach your kids safety? What do you think is important for them to know about being safe?
It is very sad that some kids can't even go play out in their front yard! Times have changed so much. Even when I was a kid I walked home like Ms. Stogsdill did. My friends and I would ride our bikes all over the neighborhood. I was even allowed to go selling girl scout cookies door to door by myself. That wasn't that long ago either.
ReplyDeleteI love how passionate you are about your cause, and that you are going to help the kids you care about. After Hailey Owens, I think our community is spreading the exact same message you are wanting to spread.
