Dragon Boat Festival

         

          When reading over one of the autobiography of the Chinese letters I came across the Dragon Boat Festival. I had never heard of it before so I decided to use it has my research topic.  According to travelchinaguide.com the Dragon Boat Festival happens on the 5^th day of the 5^th month.  This festival has been going on for over 2,000 years. Many legends circulate around the festival such as the chance to build their bodies and dispel diseases, but the most popular legend is the legend of Qu Yuan.

          Qu Yuan supported the decision to fight against the powerful State of Qin. He ended up showing much love to his country by writing great poems that the citizen fell in love with. He has now passed but at every Dragon Boat Festival they have a special moment just for Qu Yuan. Many people come to the festival with boats that are shaped and dressed up like dragons. That’s how the festival got its name. A custom that is shown on this special day is that all kids wear a prefume pouch. It’s said if kids wear them then all the evil is washed away. This day has many special things that happen but I want to give a special thanks to Constabnce for writing about this event in her paper. If she had never brought it up then I would have never of kniwn about it.

Service Learning

Just project was very fun to do. it was a good topic that i was able to research and it kept my attention very well. during the presentation I really had a part of all of the research and pictures. It was a good presention since I was able to do it with Madison and Kaitlyn. If we all three made our own presentation it would have been really borinng becaus eit would be the samething over and over again. here is the link to our presentation if you want to view it.

Global Perspectives

   It was very interesting when we went and visited MSU. I went to three presentations and my favorite one was the film. The film just caught my eye and it was able to keep my focus. I always enjoy hearing and seeing people do good things for others to help them out. The film was able to show me that many people do want to leave their home and come to the United States because it is a better life here. It showed me that people also care about people who come to the United States and us Americans love to help get these families up and on their feet for a few months. I wish I could have been apart of shooting this film because you know it had to have been a great, life changing experience. It was nice to be able to talk with the guy that shot the fil m himself. I know from what i saw and heard that the guy had such a fun time shooting this film that once he gets enugh time and/or money then he would love to shoot another film like the one h has already done.
